What is a Bachelor's Degree Program? (continued from top)
A bachelor's degree program usually takes four years of full-time study. This type of degree is an undergraduate degree and often a stepping stone to a master's program. There are two basic types of bachelor's degrees. The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree program is comprised mostly of humanities courses such as languages and the arts. A Bachelor of Sciences (BS) degree program is geared toward math and sciences. While Bachelor's degrees can be an end unto themselves, they can also be springboards into a graduate or master's program.
Is a Degree Really Important?
In that last 10 years there has been a 14% rise in the number of bachelor's degrees awarded. That represents an excess of one and a quarter million degrees awarded last year. This rise is largely due to the increased level of competition for quality positions. Considerably more individuals of both genders, all races, and all backgrounds are pursuing degrees. Education is becoming the new leveling factor.
What Types of Bachelor's Degrees Are There?
There are many bachelor's degrees available such as a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc). This degree is awarded for vocational study such as nursing or therapists. A Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) can lead to further education or to an entry level job with architectural firms. A BComm or Bachelor of Commerce degree will be a wonderful spring board into the financial world of banks and big business.
No matter what venue you decide to pursue with your bachelor degree program, you can be sure that the time spent on education is always well spent.
